Friday Photo: No. 46

We are cocooning up at home this weekend since my sweet and fragile little CJ is recovering from a minor surgery he had yesterday. He is going to be fine, but the whole process was exhausting and made my heart feel like it was full of rocks. So up on deck for us: breakfast in bed, afternoon movies under cozy blankets and never changing out of our pajamas. And, thankfully, my mom is still in town for a couple days. What are you up to, friends?

+ This print makes me giggle.

+ This frozen dessert guide makes me feel like I'm five again.

+ Peachy lipstick screams summer.

+ I'd like to dance around the city & run errands in this.

+ Fabric lamps could be really pretty for a midsummer night's party.

+ It's grilling season, so why not grill a pizza?

+ This might be the best wedding video. Ever.

+ Art goes here. Genius.

+ Model vacations.

Summer Is...

Yesterday was late.

It took my cabbie a whopping 49 minutes to go from the East Village to Tribeca. I had to wait 20 minutes and behind a line of dozen people just to buy a green-tea slushie. The express train was running local and behind schedule. The newest issue of one of my favorite magazines was not yet on newsstands. Late.

Today is on time.

As in, today is the first official day of summer and the city has hit the cue perfectly with a 97-degree day. Summer to us means, eating cherries out of brown bags every night on our stoop, spending days on the beach under rainbow-colored umbrellas, staring at deep blue water that swallows whole rays of light, taking boat rides instead of car rides and eating icy snow cones for dinner. What does summer mean to you?

And I made it to the airport in 20 minutes flat today.

Remarkably on time.

Samba Lessons

Hello, friends! We just bumbled back into town from the Hamptons. Sadly, the traffic on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway put the brakes on our beachside state of mind. Literally.

Hopefully, CJ brought back a little bit of the swagger that he showcased to a deck full of strangers when we were grabbing sunset cocktails one night. Check him out. Isn't he rad? The smallest samba dancer Montauk has ever seen {and, ahem, the cutest}. Normally, CJ is a teensy bit shy, but he was feeling extra groovy, even though everyone around us was snapping shots of him on their phones. I guess we all need a vacation every now and then...even if you're three. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that some of his rhythm rubs off on me!

Pics from our adventure coming up, after I refuel on cheap Chinese takeout and a bubble bath.

Friday Photo: No. 45

Another weekend is up on deck, my dears! We are doing what all the fancy New Yorkers do and heading to the Hamptons for the weekend with some friends. CJ is seeing stars that he gets to treat Mr. S to a surfing lesson for Father's Day, while I just can't wait to collapse along the shore where the sand is spilled like piles of flour and take in the air that smells like coconuts and sea salt. What are you up to?

+ Nifty Father's Day ideas if you're around NYC.

+ It's picnic season, so make your own blanket!

+ Taking some styling cues from this for my loungy weekend.

+ Happy notes.

+ This could serve me well when burning the midnight oil.

+ A well curated scarf collection.

+ Clever artwork for above a bed.

+ Step up your s'mores with homemade graham crackers.

+ These luggage tags make me want to go everywhere.

+ Wouldn't it be special to give one of these to someone as a going away present?

+ Beach day.

+ 10 places to take a summer trip.

+ A deep, inspiring beach read.

The Polka Dot Plunge

It was two days ago.

There were rain drops big enough to be pregnant with puddles that looked like they would leave a bruise when they splashed against my arm. There were whispy grey clouds that swirled at my feet. If you could see sad, it would look like this past Tuesday in New York City.

I was feeling a bit sullen from the wave of weary weather that rolled in, so I bought the equivalent of sunshine.

A pair of polka-dot pants in red.

Sunshine.

I've been a little nervous to wear them any further than my closet.

But.

I {cross} walked CJ to school in them. I bought feta cheese in them. I gave directions to a lost tourist in them. Polka dots + pants, as it turns out, is not such a controversial thing.

Sunshine.

Do you own anything polka dotted? What's the craziest thing in your closet?
