Ain't No Sunshine...
Monday, May 3, 2010 at 8:49AM I am in a bit of a gloomy rut, dear readers. I'm not sure if it is due to the fact that Connor is teething (making a stay in a mental hospital seem quaint), the bout of rainy weather that is roosting over NYC at the moment or the pangs of feeling homesick that have cropped up recently. I don't necessarily miss home as in an actual location, as I consider NYC my home now, but I find myself wishing I could reel in the dearest people in my life. The family and friends who are supportive and reliable and kind and intriguing and thoughtful and creative. The irreplaceables. You know who you are! {Wink!}
In lieu of any of these people ringing my doorbell, oh, wait, I live in a fifth floor apartment. OK, well, in lieu of my doorman alerting me that any of these people are waiting at the elevator, I have decided to look at some things that make me, well, happy. Simple, sweet, thoughtful things that can help wipe out a case of teething-rainy-homesick-itis.

They are going to the chapel, oops, city hall, and they're going to get married. Look, the bride is even wearing white! There is something that really resonates with me about the pureness and simplicity of a city hall wedding. I think the individuality and intimateness of the process really speaks to the novelty of true love.

Perhaps it is because the light and airy vibe of spring has arrived, but I find myself favoring dainty, feminine jewelry at the moment, like these precious pieces from Joanna Rutter.

Nothing can cheer me up quite like a cupcake can. And have you ever seen a cupcake as jolly as this one? This is called Cupcake 19: Blueberry Cupcake with Maple Brown Butter Frosting, courtesy of Harvard grad student, Ming Thompson. His wicked recipes that use ingredients like, beets, port wine, bailey's irish cream, parsnip, mango pulp and fig jam, never fail to please! Yum-o! A little cupcake therapy can always do the trick!
What cheers you up on a blue day, readers? Do you have any ideas to brighten my day? Is there anything in your life that is tempting you to indulge in a little cupcake therapy?

Perhaps one of these movies: You've Got Mail, Elizabethtown, or The Holiday? And definitely music that you love.... and if all that fails, I just lay on the floor and laugh with my little boy.
Hope you lose the blues soon!
Laying on the floor and laughing with my little boy? Genius! Totally does the trick!
P.S. I can totally spot a member of the Sara Welch circle when the movies You've Got Mail and Elizabethtown are mentioned! ;)
I am glad it helped, always works for me. Those little boys are just marvelous for smile making.
The Sara Welch Circle... I'm happy to be part of that group. You are correct, I can't remember how many times we've watched those lovely movies together.
PS. I love how you are telling your story through your blog. We just moved to Minneapolis, which is no NY, but much bigger than our little town south of Nashville. We're trying to figure out if we can do the whole IN the city thing or go suburbs.
I can totally relate to this! My 6 m.o. daughter is teething (which is a nightmare, to say the least) and I live in the Northwest, where spring means daily rainstorms. Misery loves company, huh? I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling. Perhaps a bit more excersize will cheer you up- that's what I'm trying!
Christina, I could definitely use more exercise in my life! Haha! And, no, sister you are not alone! Teething must be contagious! Don't forget to become a fan of the page on Facebook so you can receive updates from the website. You can get to it by going to the About Andrea section of this site! :) Thanks so much for reading! :)
Your words regarding the City Hall Wedding are ones to cherish. Thank you so much for expressing what I had not been able to put into words about my own City Hall wedding. Love your writing!
To cheer up when I'm down, I love to go on a long walk. These days, I'm pushing a big stroller with a sweet baby boy riding along. We stop by the creek & listen to the water run over the rocks. Does the trick every time!
